Information & Networking Event – Friday, Oct. 13th, 2017

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ottawa and the German Academic International Network (GAIN) invite you to an event on research and science careers in Germany which will take place at the Residence of the German Ambassador (290 Coltrin Road, Ottawa) on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

This event will combine information on pursuing research in Germany with opportunities to network.

The event will begin at 5:30 pm with an Information Session entitled “The German Research Landscape – Funding and Career Opportunities for Early-Career Researchers” which will provide details on programs to support research activities in Germany and with German partners.

Prof. Gerd Leuchs, MPI für die Physik des Lichts Erlangen

This session will be followed at 6:30 pm by a keynote from Prof. Dr. Gerd Leuchs, Director of both the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Erlangen and the Max Planck – University of Ottawa Centre for Extreme and Quantum Photonics. Dr. Leuchs’ keynote will present his vision of the future of science and research in Germany, Europe, and its global contexts. His talk is titled:

“The Varied Paths in a Scientific Career”

At the keynote’s conclusion, attendees will be invited to connect at a reception between 7:00 – 8:30 pm. Here there will be an opportunity to network with fellow researchers from the Ottawa area, Dr. Leuchs as well as with representatives of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the German Academic International Network (GAIN).
