Research Careers in Germany: Myths, Realities and Opportunities (GAIN26)
This interactive workshop is designed for international postdoctoral researchers in the United States who are interested in research career opportunities in Germany. It combines practical insights, interactive discussions, and expert perspectives to provide an overview of career paths in academia, non-university research institutions, and industry.
The session begins with an exploration of common perceptions about Germany as a research destination, covering topics such as academic independence, funding opportunities, language requirements, career development, international integration, and work culture.
Participants will hear a short testimonial from an international researcher based in Germany and then engage with experts in a moderated World Café format. Discussions will focus on career structures, funding, institutional environments, and living and working in Germany.
The workshop will also highlight opportunities in strategic fields such as AI, biotechnology, energy, and health.
