Professional development and career planning (GAIN25)
Working as a researcher offers a wide range of opportunities and the chance to pursue one’s own academic interests. At the same time, many researchers struggle with the pressures of a dynamic work environment and find it difficult to set priorities amid numerous (inter-)disciplinary and oth-er demands. What should doctoral candidates and postdocs consider when building their academ-ic profile to prepare for the next steps in their careers? What should be taken into account regard-ing disciplinary or interdisciplinary focus, publication strategy, knowledge transfer, and self-presentation?
A panel of representatives from Berlin universities, research institutions, the political sphere, and funding organizations will discuss with doctoral candidates and postdocs the challenges of devel-oping an academic profile and the key career factors that should be considered. They will share experiences and present examples of career development from their respective institutions.
