WWU promotes cutting-edge research in the humanities and social sciences, the natural sciences and life sciences. These areas comprise outstanding basic research and application-oriented projects. In addition to 2 Clusters of Excellence, WWU is the spokesperson in 9 DFG SFG/TRR and 3 SPP. 9 Leibniz Prize winners currently work at the University of Münster. Around 25 grants by the ERC, 3 Max Planck Research Awards and 3 Humboldt professorships underscore the excellent research performance.
