From Curiosity to Impact: Careers Across Germany’s Non-University Research Organizations (GAIN26)

Germany’s four major non-university research organizations – Fraunhofer, Helmholtz, Leibniz and Max Planck – offer diverse career paths. This interactive workshop explores their commonalities, differences from universities, and which best fit your interests and career goals. Participants gain insights through a short quiz and a moderated discussion with representatives of the four organizations. The session highlights shared features and distinct profiles – from curiosity-driven basic research to mission-oriented and applied research. Strong links with universities, industry, civil society and public institutions enable diverse, often permeable career paths – from scientific leadership to roles in research infrastructures, technology and knowledge transfer, or at the interface with industry, administration and policy. The workshop targets German and international postdocs. No prior knowledge is required. Participants are invited to continue the conversation at the Talent Fair booths.
