Based in New York City, GAIN is a joined initiative of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the German Research Foundation (DFG).  As a network organization we support early career researchers in North America providing rare networking opportunities with key players of the German research landscape. Dietrich Wolf Fenner, Program director

Dietrich Wolf Fenner is the contact person for German scientists in North America. As an expert in science migration/science diaspora, he speaks at conferences and designs events and workshops on academic career development.

Dietrich Wolf Fenner headed the Press and Public Relations, Event Management and Fundraising department of the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” (ECC) in Berlin from 2011 to 2017. Prior to that he served for five years as the press spokesman of the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED dictatorship. He also has many years of experience as a television journalist for political talk formats in the ARD channels and cultural programs for ARTE.

In 2001 he graduated from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg with the master’s thesis: “Minghellas Ripley and Gender Performances” as Magister Artium in completion of his studies of German, Modern and Contemporary History, Economic and Social History. In 1997 Dietrich Wolf Fenner studied at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, Colonial History, English Literature and Italian. From 1999 to 2000 he worked for Professor Claudia Liebrand at the Institute for German Language and Literature I, Modern German Literature at the University of Cologne.
