There and Back Again – Personal Insights into Navigating Transatlantic Careers (GAIN26)

This interactive workshop offers personal insights of high-level research managers from diverse Helmholtz entities as well as of distinguished researchers from Berkeley Lab into how to best navigate transatlantic career pathways in science. The speakers will share their experiences of building a career in both Germany and the United States, highlighting opportunities in academia and beyond. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of structural differences, career planning strategies, and key factors to consider when moving between both systems. Moderated by Dr. Zahar Barth-Manzoori, Director of the DWIH San Francisco, the workshop addresses early-career researchers from all research fields and will present not only academic career paths but also entrepreneurial perspectives. The workshop has a World Café–style format, encouraging active exchange not only with the speakers but also among participants, fostering peer-to-peer learning and discussion.
