The GAIN25 Annual Conference and Talent Fair will take place August 29-31, 2025 in Boston. It is aimed at postdocs from Germany who are currently working on the American continent.

Dear scientific community,

Find out about career prospects, research institutions and current science policy in Germany at the GAIN annual conference. Network with representatives of German universities, non-university institutions, funding agencies, commercial companies and politicians. And meet interesting employers at the Talent Fair.

In the diverse GAIN25 program, subject-specific issues are discussed, career strategies are presented and professional networking is made easy.

In the workshops you will receive tips and ideas for your career development: job opportunities in the postdoc phase, setting up junior research groups, applying for a professorship, alternative research careers, careers in the research industry and in science management, strategies for dual-career couples as well families and much more.

Universities as well as research and funding institutions present themselves at the Talent Fair. Meet the exhibitors for career advice, job interviews, meet-an-experts or a CV check. Here you can actively expand your scientific network and make valuable contacts.

Announcement of GAIN participation scholarship

Who can apply?
Internationally mobile scientists from Germany who are currently working on the American continent take part in GAIN25. Postdocs who do not receive a scholarship from the DAAD, the DFG, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Leopoldina or the German National Academic Foundation are invited to apply for the GAIN participation scholarship. Applications are open to all disciplines.

What is funded?
For GAIN scholarship holders, GAIN covers the conference fees of 630 US dollars including meals as well as the cost of two nights in the conference hotel – unless you live in Boston. Travel costs are not covered.

How to apply?

  • Please register via the registration portal under the category “German Attendee (PostDoc)”. By registering, you are taking part in the application process for a GAIN participation scholarship.
  • Specify “GAIN” as the inviting organization.
  • You will be asked to upload your CV and state your motivation for participating.
  • Please only book your hotel room after receiving confirmation of a GAIN participation scholarship.

Further conference information

Conference language: The majority of sessions and events take place in German. The conference program on Saturday afternoon, which is also open to international researchers from the Boston area, also offers workshops in English. The Science Slam will also be held in English.

Registration: We ask for your binding, electronic registration by May 15th, 2025. To do this, please register here: Converve registration link

Online registration takes about ten minutes. You will receive a confirmation email. You have the opportunity to complete your information on the event app, network with other conference participants and arrange individual consultations.

Hotel booking: Please find the details of which nights will be covered in the information sheet that you received with the invitation from your sponsoring organization. Please reserve your room yourself at the allotment price of $255 plus tax by May 31st, 2025. You can book the GAIN room allotment here: https://book.passkey.com/go/PostDocs

When booking, you will be asked to provide your own credit card number. This only serves to protect against so-called “incidents” and will not be billed to your card.

Reimbursement of travel expenses: Please find the details in the information sheet that you received with the invitation from your sponsoring organization.

Science Slam: All GAIN participants are cordially invited to submit an application for the Science Slam. More information will follow soon.

Cancellation: If you have to cancel your participation, we ask you to do this in the registration platform and also send a notification by email to GAIN program director Anna Oberle-Brill (oberle-brill@daad.de). Please note that registration is binding. If you cancel without an understandable reason after May 15th, you may be charged costs.

GAIN24 Timeline

March/April
Scholarship holders from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the DAAD, the DFG, the German National Academic Foundation, the Leopoldina or the German Cancer Aid will receive a personal invitation to the conference. Click here to register.

May 15th
Deadline: Registration in the GAIN25 Event Tool

GAIN members and interested parties who are not currently supported by any of the above-mentioned institutions can apply for the GAIN participation scholarship via the Converve event tool until May 15th. You can apply for a GAIN participation scholarship here.
