Dear Science Community,
Find out more about career prospects, research institutions and current science policy in Germany at the GAIN annual conference. Network with representatives of German universities, non-university institutions, funding bodies, commercial enterprises and politicians. And meet interesting employers at the Talent Fair.
In the diverse GAIN23 program, subject-specific issues are discussed, career strategies are presented and professional networking is made easy.
In the workshops you will receive tips and ideas for your career development: job opportunities in the postdoc phase, setting up junior research groups, applying for a professorship, alternative research careers, careers in the research industry and in science management, strategies for dual-career couples and families and much more.
Universities as well as research and funding institutions present themselves at the Talent Fair. Meet the exhibitors for career advice, job interviews, meet-an-experts or for a CV check. Here you can actively expand your scientific network and make valuable contacts.

Call for applications for a GAIN participation grant
Who can apply?
Internationally mobile scientists from Germany who are currently working on the American continent are taking part in GAIN23. Postdocs who do not receive a grant from the DAAD, the DFG, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Leopoldina are invited to apply for the GAIN participation grant. Applications are open to all disciplines.
What is funded?
For GAIN scholarship holders, GAIN will cover the conference fee of 610 US dollars including meals and the costs for two nights in the conference hotel – if no private accommodation is available in Boston. Travel expenses are not covered.
How to apply?
Please register via the registration portal under the category “Participants”/”German Attendee”. Specify “GAIN” as the inviting organization. By registering, you take part in the application process for a GAIN participation grant. You will be asked to upload your CV and state your motivation for participating.
Please do not book your hotel room until you have received confirmation of a GAIN participation grant. Decisions on the applications received are expected to be sent after May 15th.
Preliminary GAIN 23 Timeline – Participating Postdocs
March/April
Scholarship holders from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the DAAD, the DFG, the German National Academic Foundation, the Leopoldina or the German Cancer Aid will receive a personal invitation to the conference and can then register. GAIN members and interested parties who are currently not being funded by any of the above-mentioned institutions can apply for the GAIN participation grant via the Converve Event Tool until May 15th.

International Welcome - English Program on Saturday Afternoon
International Welcome: On Saturday Afternoon, August 26, 2023 international scholars are invited to join the GAIN23 for the English program and Science Slam. Any international, PhD student, or postdoc in the area is invited. There is no admission fee for international researchers but registration is required. Please see below for more details. #GoGAIN23
Registration deadline: 15 June 2023
- We cordially invite all international PhD and postdoctoral students, as well as junior faculty of all disciplines to join us for the Saturday afternoon program at the GAIN23 conference and career fair in Boston, MA. The Saturday afternoon program is offered in English.
- You can schedule appointments with representatives from more than 100 German universities, research institutions, funding agencies, and industry. Find out about their program and job openings!
- Special information session with expert advisers and consultants for international researchers on opportunities for Postdocs, Young Investigators, and Junior Faculty Members in Germany.
- Participate in the GAIN23 Science Slam and win a prize!
Take up the chance and impart your current research results to a diverse audience. Present your findings in a five-minute pitch in front of the GAIN23 audience. The winner will receive a cash prize of 2500 US Dollars!
