Universities and Non-University Research Institutions: Distinction & Collaboration

For early career scientists, both universities and non-university research institutions offer exciting frameworks for further scientific qualification. While universities combine a holistic view of research, teaching and knowledge exchange under one roof, non-university research institutions offer the almost exclusive focus on individual research. Often, both forms set similar or complementary research foci, so it is very advantageous for developing a scientific career path to familiarize oneself with both institutions. The planned workshop will offer a brief presentation of both institutional forms, followed by an elaboration of their commonalities and demarcations. The panelists and early career testimonials will exemplarily address common research interests and possibilities of joint projects, but also refer to structural possibilities such as joint appointments, junior research groups, joint graduate structures as well as the possibilities of shared research infrastructures.
