Professional development and career planning
Working as a researcher offers a wide range of opportunities and the chance to pursue one’s own academic interests. At the same time, many researchers struggle with the pressures of a dynamic work environment and find it difficult to set priorities amid numerous (inter-)disciplinary and other demands. What should doctoral candidates and postdocs consider when building their academic profile to prepare for the next steps in their careers? What should be taken into account regarding disciplinary or interdisciplinary focus, publication strategy, knowledge transfer, and self-presentation?
A panel of representatives from Berlin universities, research institutions, the political sphere, and funding organizations will discuss with doctoral candidates and postdocs the challenges of developing an academic profile and the key career factors that should be considered. They will share experiences and present examples of career development from their respective institutions.
