Statistically, academia is the alternative career path for researchers: Only 15% of doctorate holders under 45 in Germany work at a university, and just a small fraction secure a professorship or a permanent position. The majority, however, build careers in various industries, the public sector, or the non-profit sector.

But how can you find the right career fit beyond academia? How can your values and stengths guide your career decisions? What do you need to know if you want to enter the German job market from abroad? And what career models are possible?

In this workshop, we provide key insights for researchers considering a transition beyond academia, focusing on how to build a personal career strategy. Topics include authentic positioning and visibility based on self-reflection, practical tools such as informational interviews and LinkedIn research, and best practices from experienced researchers and experts from different sectors.
